Summertime is approaching and you are itching to get out of dodge. Those warm, sunny days are calling you to come out and play. What’s more epic than a road trip? Hopping into the car and driving to a different destination to escape your daily routine, just screams summertime fun. Technically it is still spring, but Memorial Day weekend feels like the kick-off to summer activities, and we took advantage of taking some time off last weekend to go for a lovely 4 plus hour drive to a fun filled destination with friends and family. Now we want to plan a few more weekend road trip getaways!
Road trips, when planned right, can be both fun and healthy. Yes, I said healthy. Generally when you think of road trips, you think of hours in the car, sitting and eating junk food and hitting various numbers of fast food restaurants for a quick bite to eat. EEEERT! What? Stop. Just because you are riding in a car for hours, does not mean you should get lazy and eat like crap. When you fill your body with junk food and fatty processed fast foods, you are setting yourself up for feeling tired and crappy by the time you get to your destination. Who wants to feel like that? I sure don’t. That is where planning ahead comes into play. You take the time to plan where you want to go, what things you want to do there, when you should leave, what time you expect to arrive, which route(s) to take to get there, and even what to pack, why not plan your food and rest stops too?
